Challenge

Some things are too old and unfashionable to use or wear nowadays, but we still keep them because of the sentimental value. With the capabilities of 3D printers we can now give them a new life. The latest project from Matt Olczyk shows that sometimes old things can become even more fashionable than something brand new. He took his old watch and then designed and engraved an amazing watch band using ZMorph 2.0 S Hybrid 3D Printer.

Solution

Pattern for the watch band was inspired by the architectural details of Art Deco. Using a ZMorph machine with a laser toolhead mounted on it, Matt was able to engrave his unique design on a piece of natural leather which he cut from an old purse, cleaned and polished before using it for 3D printing.

Result

By applying a precise set of settings for the laser, Matt managed to manufacture a pattern with an amazing quality and high level of details. The whole laser engraving process took only about 10 minutes to complete. As a result Matt created a stylish and unique new band for his favorite watch. Hybrid 3D printer proved to be very useful tool in restoring old memorabilia.
