3D printed organic form.

3D printed spherical garden allows to create indoor gardens in any habitat or climate. It’s a result of two years of research dedicated to challenging the issues of urbanization, globalization and food production.

Challenge

Designed by Marcin Gladzik, the spherical garden was a result of two years of research dedicated to challenging the issues of urbanization, globalization and modern food production. Such approach to the furniture design not only brought technology and nature together, but most importantly set a new direction within sustainable domestic architecture.

Solution

ZMorph 2.0 S multitool 3D printer helped in building of the spherical garden. The whole structure was fabricated with a CNC-cut 4 mm polycarbonate and assembled together with joints printed from durable ABS filament. Marcin then used a water tank and a base made from Corian. LED lights were also applied in order to stimulate the growth of the plants indoor.

Result

Spherical Garden allows to create indoor gardens in any habitat or climate. It’s a perfect showpiece for large kitchens, lounges, halls as well as public spaces, like schools. 3D printed body makes it very resistant and aesthetically pleasing while an extremely efficient flood and drain system allows growing plants without soil in almost sterile environment.
