Some industries are already familiar with 3D printing as a useful tool to make production more efficient, and the entertainment industry seems to also be warming up to the technology.
In theatre, 3D printing is being used to produce props and even entire sets. In music, it's possible to print instruments or even create performative items, like the masks used by Duo Face. The entertainment industry is only one example of how 3D printing is making a positive impact.
Duo Face are two famous rappers from Poland, and they’re known for wearing elaborate masks when performing their shows. They use original and technical rhymes in their music. They needed comfortable and unique masks to wear during their performances. Group performer, Rafał “Antone” Antoszewski, comments
“I chose 3D printing for our group’s mask creations because I believe it's the best form of production masks for both durability and lightweight.
The heavyweight of the prior masks at concerts was inadvisable and inconvenient!”
The Zmorph i500 created these masks quickly and conveniently, and it ensured that each mask was smooth enough to paint easily afterward.
In particular, the performers needed a 3D printer that was open to using various filament materials, and the post-processing capabilities of the Zmorph i500 made it the perfect choice.
In order to make their masks, Duo Face first created a prototype using bandages, which were then scanned by the Zmorph i500, and a design was created. Sales Manager, Hubert Gleba from Zmorph, comments
“Duo Face partnered with us to make masks for their onstage performances. They had previously tried plaster masks from gypsum, but the durability wasn’t okay. So, they tried 3D-printed masks from PLA material on the Zmorph i500.
Duo Face did the 3D scanning of their faces to make the masks suit them perfectly. We received 3D files from them and made changes to the model to better suit their onstage performances. PLA was selected as the building material because it’s easy to post-processing and painting.
The results were astonishingly great! The masks suited their faces perfectly, and they were lightweight and durable enough to allow them to move freely around the stage and perform in the way that they wanted.”
The Zmorph i500 is a leading-class and professional 3D printer that has many applications for various industries. Today, Duo Face continues to use the Zmorph i500 to print masks for their performances.
