There are only a few companies in Europe that offer a full design, printing, and post-production services for digitizing and reconstructing existing works of art. One of them is Get Models Now from Poland which was recently approached by a client who wanted to make a 3D printed baroque frame for his painting from scratch. The results are stunning.
The client wanted his frame to resemble antique Baroque frames that can be seen in museums and churches. People from Get Models Now had to make a unique design, split it into 3D printable parts, and provide proper joints. 3D printing allowed them to create complex and detailed ornaments on the frame.
17 parts were 3D printed using ZMorph 2.0 SX and assembled to make a frame of 700 mm x 500 mm. With so many parts, it was possible to imitate full-scale stucco works like the ones carved on original wooden Baroque frames. But the frame made by GMN is much lighter and manufactured in significantly less time, even including post-production.
To mimic the original look of antique arts, an art historian and an experience antique restorer used a set of professional treatments on their 3D printed baroque frame. These were far more advanced than popular DIY methods and added a true authenticity and antique feel to this original design.
The 3D printed Baroque frame created by Get Models Now can fit well into vintage interiors as well as into private collections of art for which it was originally ordered. 3D printing provided a quicker and less expensive way of creating this work of art than it would take to carve the frame in real wood. Furthermore, it was made using eco-friendly, safe and biodegradable materials.
It’s a perfect example of how modern technology can merge with history. Like all art, this Baroque frame is not only beautiful but also carries a hidden meaning.
